Members Roll Up Their Sleeves for the Maryland Lawyers' Day of Service

On April 27, AABA members and friends participated in the Maryland Lawyers' Day of Service.

The Maryland Lawyers' Day of Service was established to encourage legal professionals to participate in statewide community service projects. This year, local bar associations selected service projects that addressed the prevalent issue of homelessness throughout Maryland. The AABA organized a landscaping and yard cleanup project at the Arundel House of Hope's Fouse Center, a transitional housing center for men. Our volunteers mowed grass, cleaned out beds, spread mulch, and handles other gardening tasks.

Our volunteers had the opportunity to connect with a few of the Arundel House of Hope residents, who helped with a few projects and shared their stories. Patrice Clarke spent time talking to a resident who was a recovering alcoholic for about 15 years, but lost his home due to his girlfriend's drug addiction. He sought out the House of Hope last Christmas. “He told me that the Arundel House of Hope has given him not only a place to live, but purpose.  He is still struggling, but he has a plan and help to implement that plan through AHOH.  I thought it was a wonderful testament to the work that AHOH does in [our county] and why AHOH was a worthy place for us to invest our time and efforts.”

The AABA would like to thank the following volunteers for our Day of Service:  AABA President Stacey Rice and family; Patrice Meredith Clarke and family; Hon. Glen Klavans and Sandy Kemick; Jen Loeb; Brian Marsh; and Nicolle Norris; Nickola Sybblis and family; Nathan Volke; and Sky Woodward.
