Effective Monday, August 3, 2015, mandatory e-filing for criminal and traffic pleadings commences for all attorneys in Maryland filing in Anne Arundel County.
From the Maryland Judiciary: The Maryland Judiciary's Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC) project will launch criminal and traffic e-filing in Anne Arundel County. This includes District Court, Circuit Court, Court of Special Appeals, and Court of Appeals. This is the second phase completing the Anne Arundel County electronic courts implementation. Please note that Partial-Pre-payment waivers and failure to pay rent notices (Landlord Tenant) are not subject to the electronic filing requirement. The courts listed above will no longer accept paper filings from attorneys. However, Rule 20-106(b) sets out the circumstances in which a person required to file electronically may be excused from doing so.
State agencies: Should register as if the agency is a firm. Each location of the agency should create a firm and have office administrators for the firm administrator function. Once the agency is registered as a firm, attorneys will then be able to register as a "User with an Existing Firm." If attorneys are listed as a party to the case, proceed with registering as a "User with an Existing Firm." If specific attorneys are not added to your case, firm administrators will need to contact efilinginfo@mdcourts.gov so we can create a generic attorney login where users will be able to file on behalf of the agency. See the steps below to register to e-file.
