Dave Fordham passed away in 2007, but he remains the soul of the AABA softball league. Dave played in the official bar softball league from it's inception in 1987 and helped to take The State's Attorney's to the first title that year. Dave was a career State's Attorney and rose to the position of Director of District Court. In 1992 after a decade of playing for the office, Dave helped to form the team North County with Bill Trevillian. North County would go on to win 7 titles in the next 14 years, with Fordham at first base. Dave's favorite year was 1993 when the team went 14-0 and earned another title. In short Dave was a winner. But winning isn't the reason why both the Anne Arundel Bar Association Board of Trustees and the softball league teams unanimously voted to name the championship trophy after him, the reason is respect for the man behind the wins. Dave was the epitome of a good sportsman. Always fair, and respectful of players on a less talented team, Dave was admired by all. He reminded us that while its nice to win, the league was about creating connections in the legal field and having a good time. In his last at bat in the 2005 championship he drove a line drive between third and short. Not bad for a sixty-year old. Dave may be gone, but his memory and legacy of good natured competition and good sportsmanship lives on. Pictured above left is Dave with the Championship Trophy a few years ago and at right, his family Ann, Ben and Doris, with the 2007 Fordham Trophy. |
